"Every day brings a choice: to practice stress or to practice peace." ~ Joan Borysenko
Ready to get away from your stressful life?
Then come join me for a one hour, two hour or four hour adventure healing retreat. Together we will explore the creeks, islands and shoreline of Percy Priest Lake. Let me show you how connecting with nature can help you regain self-confidence, decrease stress, improve mental function, reduce depression and anxiety and so much more. Discover a part of you that you didn't even know you had lost.
Your healing adventure will include: ¨ Many photo opportunities ¨ Meditating in a peaceful, serene, shady spot ¨ Wildlife of many kinds—otters, beavers, deer, foxes, ducks, turtles, snakes and a wide variety of birds and fish ¨ Rental of kayak, paddle, life jacket and instruction ¨ A photo of you kayaking and enjoying yourself
Perfect for both experienced and beginner kayakers. We begin your retreat with an instructive lesson on how to kayak safely. We will set out once you are comfortable with navigating your kayak.
Kayaking can be peaceful and meditative or can be exhilarating – depending on where and how you do it. You set the tone for your healing adventure.
Not only is kayaking a great form of exercise, it also helps to build mental aptitude and to relieve stress. • Paddle sports sharpen your senses - you become attuned to the environment and your impact on it. • It builds bonds - trust in your paddling group and sharing experiences out of your comfort zone is a great way to build trust. • It lets you escape - gets you into the great outdoors and gives you some time where you can forget about other responsibilities, helping to reduce stress.
Are you ready to try a new way of healing? Come let me share with you my passion. The form of healing that has helped me time and time again when I was so stressed out that I couldn't even perform daily chores. Come re-discover some of your sanity.
I also provide paddling tours for the TN Association of Blind Athletes (TNABA). This is a fabulous non-profit organization that helps blind athletes live an active and fulfilling life through adventure.
My program introduces tandem kayaking to blind and visually impaired athletes, thus giving them the opportunity to feel connected with nature, to learn the value of healthy activity, and to learn the value of a meditative practice. These athletes get special in depth instruction in kayaking. Then once on the lake, they will receive a detailed on-going narration of the adventure and even a photo if they'd like.
I truly enjoy working with the blind athletes. I am able to share my passion of kayaking with athletes who would never dream of being able to participate in a sport like kayaking. Sharing the details I experience in kayaking with these athletes takes kayaking to a whole new level for me. I get to be creative and have an adventure at the same time. For me that's a lot of fun!
"I have really enjoyed kayaking with Missy the past two years. She made sure I was comfortable with the kayak and taught me how to paddle. Missy describes the scenery and the conditions on the water. Her verbal cues make paddling together go smoothly. She is an experienced kayaker and I have always felt comfortable and at ease on the water with her.
Kayaking is a great upper body workout. But, for me, the peace and tranquillity that I feel connecting with nature as we do a sunset paddle on the lake is what I love the most about kayaking." T.C., Nashville, TN - TNABA Member
"I had a delightful time paddling across the lake for the first time in a kayak lead by Missy. We went to a very peaceful place where we encountered a beautiful and rather large buck. Being in nature is so rewarding. I want to thank you Missy for an enjoyable morning". M.G., Nashville, TN
"My first experience in a kayak was truly amazing. I felt confident from the beginning with the expert instruction from Missy. She was instrumental in providing one of the best activities I have ever done. We took our time, explored quiet little streams with glassy still waters, very serene surroundings. I’ve been three times now and hope to make kayaking a regular weekend trip. Oh, and it’s great exercise as well as very relaxing." J.K., Nashville, TN
